Marking the Territory — Coal Mining Style

The EPA has decided that it’s ok to pitch all the tailings, dirt, residue, chemicals and other assorted garbage generated in strip mining — into the valleys and streams below the mountaintops that the miners have sawed off and demolished.  Maybe the assumption is that sooner or later it will all be flat land and we can grow things on it?

Interesting how retrograde the coal industry can be (also the EPA).  You would think with all the recent emphasis on greening and cleaning, there would be some at least cosmetic talk in that direction from Big Coal.  Guess not.
