A bunch of alternative energy startups, from Scotland to the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico, are attracting investment. Among them the Quercus Trust-backed Houston-based Hydro Green Energy (http://www.hgenergy.com/) , which will be using barge-mounted turbines to generate 5 gigawatts from river currents and wind. Also Massachusetts-based Free Flow Power (http://free-flow-power.com/), looking to generate free-flow (un-dammed) electricity along with Mississippi.
